Curriculum

Learn how the program is structured to support nurses and help them succeed in their career.

How to Apply

Apply for residency in one of five areas: adult acute care, critical care, emergency department, urgent care, and operating room.

Qualifications

  • Entry-level nurses serving in their first nursing roles are required to participate in the nurse residency program.
  • Entry-level nurses who are not in their first nursing role may participate in the nurse residency program at the discretion of the program leadership team. However, no longer than 12 months may have elapsed from the time of graduation from a prelicensure nursing program until admission to the nurse residency program.

Recent graduation (within the past 12 months) from an accredited nursing school is preferred.

Ineligible

New graduate RNs who acquire their generic RN education through an online program are not eligible for Lexington Medical Center’s nurse residency program.

Required Certifications & Licensure

The following certificates and licenses are pre-requisites for entering the program:

  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) Certificate
  • Registered Nurse (RN) licensure through South Carolina (or multi-compact state) or Graduate Nurse (GN) licensure through South Carolina

If hired with Graduate Nurse licensure, nurses must pass the National Council Licensure Examination for Registered Nurses (NCLEX-RN) by their license expiration date to continue in the nurse residency program.
