Message from the Program Director

On July 1, 2023, Lexington Medical Center will launch its first residency program in family medicine. The Lexington Medical Center Family Medicine Residency Program, newly accredited by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education in 2022 as a 13-13-13 graduate medical education program, is right in the heart of the Midlands of South Carolina, near Columbia and within one of the most successful integrated health care systems in the Southeast. Our goal is to integrate the Family Medicine Residency Program with physician practices and hospital clinical services in a manner that enhances value and quality and promotes an optimal environment for professional practice.

This opportunity gives incoming residents integral involvement from the program’s inception in an innovative and collaborative educational environment, while progressing through their own training. The Lexington Medical Center Family Medicine Residency Program will showcase excellence in quality care and solidify the commitment to health outcomes that the hospital has made to its communities since 1971.

A state-of-the-art continuity clinic is under construction. The design creates a collaborative learning environment for resident training, patient care delivery and faculty mentorship. We want our graduates to be among the best physicians in the state—skilled, successful and fulfilled in their work. As we focus on recruiting our inaugural class, we look forward to working with resident physicians who will inspire generations of family medicine graduates for years to come.
