"I could just feel that my son was in caring hands."
— Heather, Birth Center Patient
Advanced Infant Security
The Birth Center is a controlled-access environment. We take your infant's security very seriously.
Security Monitors
All infants wear security monitors in the Birth Center, placed on one ankle right after they are born using a strip of material, like a Band-Aid.
How they work:
These monitors are part of our sophisticated safety system that helps prevent infant misidentification and abduction.
- Doors will lock in the hall as your baby passes by in his or her bassinet.
- If someone tries to remove or cut the ID bracelet, the monitor triggers an alarm.
- If your baby is in an area close to an open exit door or elevator, the monitor triggers an alarm.
- If an alarm sounds, a nurse will immediately come to make sure your baby is safe.
Keeping Your Baby Safe
Identifying Hospital Staff
Do not give your baby to anyone unless you know them or they are wearing their distinctive purple-striped hospital picture ID badge.
Transporting Your Baby
The only people allowed to transport babies within the Birth Center are hospital staff, the mother and one additional support person. Please transport your baby in the hallway using your bassinet. Do not carry your baby in your arms while in the hallway.
Nursery Access
Only individuals with ID bracelets are allowed in the nursery, which is locked at all times.
Do Not Leave Your Baby Unattended
If your baby is in the room with you and you need to use the restroom, place your baby in the bassinet next to the bathroom door and leave the door open a little.
Where to Place Your Bassinet
Keep your baby's bassinet on the side of the bed farthest from the door.
