Ultrasound Services
Our Ultrasound Department is fully accredited by the American College of Radiology. In addition to providing patients with a full range of ultrasound services, we have skilled sonographers on-site 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
Services include abdominal and pelvic, obstetric and small parts ultrasound, and ultrasound-guided biopsies. Ultrasound is used to image a variety of tissues, including liver, kidneys, thyroid gland, bladder, abdominal, aorta, uterus and ovaries, bladder and gallbladder. Obstetric ultrasound is used to screen healthy pregnancies, biophysical profiles and for emergency conditions such as ectopic pregnancy.
How do I prepare?
Different ultrasound tests require different preparation. You may be asked to avoid food or drink prior to your exam. Or, other tests require a full bladder. Check with your doctor’s office for the appropriate preparation for your test or call the Radiology Department at (803) 791-2460.
What should I expect?
Once the technologist has positioned you on the exam table, a clear gel is applied over the area of the body that is being examined. The gel eliminates any air pockets, allowing the transducer to gather the images. When the scan is complete, the technologist will review the images and send them to be read by a radiologist.
