Dr. Phelps graduated with a bachelor’s degree in biomedical sciences from the University of Lynchburg in Virginia and earned his medical degree from Midwestern University Chicago College of Osteopathic Medicine in Downers Grove, Illinois. He then completed his internal medicine residency at Palmetto General Hospital in Hialeah, Florida, and his critical-care fellowship at Prisma Health Midlands in Columbia, South Carolina, serving as chief fellow.
Dr. Phelps is board certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine in internal medicine and critical-care medicine with additional certifications in advanced cardiovascular life support and basic life support. He has specific interest in complex hemodynamics, point-of-care ultrasound and advanced ventilator techniques with extensive experience in diagnosing, treating and preventing complications in patients who are hospitalized and critically ill.
Dr. Phelps recently cared for patients as an intensivist at the Medical University of South Carolina Columbia Medical Center and at William Jennings Bryan Dorn Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Columbia.
