Bio

Double board-certified in family medicine and preventive medicine – clinical informatics, Dr. Mayeaux has more than 30 years of clinical, leadership and academic experience. He previously served as a full professor of Family Medicine, associate vice chancellor for Clinical Affairs and senior associate dean for Education and Administration at the Louisiana State University Health Sciences Center in Shreveport. Prior to those roles, he was chair of the Department of Family Medicine at Prisma Health – University of South Carolina Medical Group and chair of Family Medicine at Prisma Health in Columbia, South Carolina.

Dr. Mayeaux is an international expert in the prevention of cervical cancer and human papillomavirus. He is a past president of the American Society for Colposcopy and Cervical Pathology and currently serves on the executive board of the International Federation for Colposcopy and Pathology of the Cervix. He also teaches skin diseases and women’s health for multiple national organizations, including the American Academy of Family Physicians. Dr. Mayeaux has published nine medical textbooks and more than 60 peer-reviewed journal articles, and he is currently working on his tenth medical textbook.

Dr. Mayeaux proudly joins the experienced faculty in Lexington Medical Center’s Graduate Medical Education program to provide comprehensive training to family medicine and transitional year resident physicians. He is also joining the organization’s Ambulatory Quality team to continue to enhance and improve patient outcomes at Lexington Medical Center.
