Bio

Dr. Schlafstein graduated cum laude from Cornell University in Ithaca, New York, with a bachelor’s degree in biology and society with a concentration in biomedical ethics. She then earned her medical degree from the Medical College of Georgia in Augusta and completed her radiation oncology residency at Emory University in Atlanta.

In addition to gaining experience treating cancer patients with radiation therapy during her residency, Dr. Schlafstein received extensive training in stereotactic radiosurgery, stereotactic body radiation therapy, low-dose rate and high-dose rate brachytherapy, SpaceOAR™, prostate fiducials, breast intraoperative radiation therapy, proton therapy, intensity-modulated radiation therapy, volumetric-modulated arc therapy, image-guided radiation therapy, radioisotopes, and utilization of Elekta and Varian equipment. She also collaborated to improve resident didactics by developing a new curriculum that included lectures and interactive sessions on a variety of topics, such as treatment planning, dosimetry, procedural skills and emergency and afterhours treatments, as well as authored and co-authored more than a dozen publications, abstracts and presentations.

Dr. Schlafstein proudly joins the board-certified physicians, advanced practice providers, nurse navigators and highly skilled clinicians at Lexington Medical Cancer Center. Working alongside medical oncologists, surgeons and other providers to coordinate the highest quality care for cancer patients, the practice offers innovative and comprehensive radiation oncology services to its communities.
