Dr. Berdel graduated from Oakland University in Rochester, Michigan, with a bachelor’s degree in biology and earned her medical degree from Ross University School of Medicine in Portsmouth, Dominica. She then completed her internal medicine residency and infectious diseases fellowship at the University of South Carolina School of Medicine in Columbia.
Board certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine in infectious diseases and internal medicine, Dr. Berdel has more than 10 years of direct patient care experience. She most recently served as an assistant professor in the Department of Infectious Diseases at Wm. Jennings Bryan Dorn Veterans Affairs Hospital in Columbia, South Carolina, working in its outpatient infectious diseases clinic and treating a variety of infectious diseases in adults. She also served as its lead infection control physician, reducing hospital-acquired infection rates, and lead antimicrobial stewardship physician, and participated in quality improvements to reduce C. difficile rates and increase COVID-19 vaccinations.
Dr. Berdel joins the board-certified physicians and highly skilled staff at Lexington Medical Specialists to provide comprehensive care for patients with infectious diseases. The practice uses the latest medical advancements and collaborates with other area specialists in the treatment, diagnosis and prevention of disorders and infectious diseases in adults.
