After earning his medical degree and completing his residency, Dr. Leonardi received a superior level of training through a cardiology fellowship at the Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston, S.C., and fellowships in interventional cardiology and structural interventional cardiology at Emory University in Atlanta. Before joining Lexington Cardiology and the Lexington Medical Center network of care, he served as a South Carolina Fellows-in-Training representative for the American College of Cardiology.
Among Dr. Leonardi’s procedural skill set is transcatheter aortic valve replacement, commonly known as TAVR. Lexington Medical Heart Center is proud to have performed the first fully percutaneous TAVR procedure in S.C. and the first TAVR procedure in the state where the patient was awake during the valve replacement.
Dr. Leonardi also has extensive experience performing transradial and transfemoral coronary angiography and intervention, peripheral (iliac and femoral) angiography and intervention, and percutaneous balloon aortic valvuloplasty. Other procedures in his skill set include percutaneous atrial septal defect/patent foramen ovale closure, alcohol septal ablation for obstructive hypertrophic cardiomyopathy, endomyocardial biopsy, invasive assessment of valvular heart disease and coronary artery disease with fractional flow reserve and intravascular ultrasound, transthoracic and transesophageal echocardiography, and nuclear cardiology. He is board certified in cardiovascular medicine, internal medicine and interventional cardiology.
