Dr. Welsh attended medical school and residency at the Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston. He was Chief Resident and is board certified in Anatomic and Clinical Pathology.
Dr. Welsh has practiced in the Columbia area since 1994 and has been active in medical leadership in the area. He currently serves as the President of the South Carolina Board of Medical Examiners and is past president of the South Carolina Society of Pathology, the Columbia Medical Society and the Medical Journal Club. He serves on several national committees for the College of American Pathologists including chair of the Economic Affairs Payment Policy Committee and panel member of the Medicare Evidence Development & Coverage Advisory Committee.
