Bio

Anna Shalkham, MD, MPH, graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in environmental sciences and policy from Duke University in Durham, North Carolina, and received her Doctor of Medicine from the Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston. She then completed her residency in emergency medicine at NYC Health + Hospitals/Bellevue in New York City, where she served as its Emergency department’s chief resident. She also earned a Master of Public Health from the University of South Carolina in Columbia.

A member of the American College of Emergency Physicians and the American Medical Informatics Association, Dr. Shalkham is certified in emergency medicine by the American Board of Emergency Medicine and in clinical informatics by the American Board of Preventive Medicine. She has more than 20 years of experience evaluating and treating acute and chronic illnesses and injuries in patients of all ages and nearly 15 years of experience leading multidisciplinary teams in the strategy and governance of clinical and operational information systems, with a focus on system integration, modernization and alignment with organizational goals.

Dr. Shalkham currently serves as senior vice president and chief information officer at Lexington Medical Center and chairs its Medical Management Team and Health Informatics Committee. In addition to these roles, she is a clinical assistant professor of Surgery and course director of clinical informatics, as well as fellowship director of Clinical Informatics, Lexington Medical Center’s first Accreditation Council for Graduated Medical Education-recognized fellowship program.

Dr. Shalkham also serves as secretary on the board of directors for Welvista, a nonprofit organization focused on medication assistance for uninsured and underserved patients in South Carolina.
