Lexington Medical Center Breaks Ground on New Facility in Northeast Columbia

Lexington Medical Center Breaks Ground on New Facility in Northeast Columbia

June 13, 2019

West Columbia – Lexington Medical Center broke ground today on a new medical facility in Northeast Columbia called Lexington Medical Center Northeast. The 225,000 square foot building will provide patients with urgent care and imaging services, outpatient surgery, occupational therapy, physical therapy, a walking trail and classroom space. Located near the intersection of Clemson and Longtown Roads, it’s expected to open in late 2020.

“This new building will allow us to provide the best possible care to our patients in Northeast Columbia,” said Tod Augsburger, president & CEO of Lexington Medical Center. “We are grateful for the support and trust of the people of Northeast Columbia, and look forward to opening this new space in the fall of next year.”

Lexington Medical Center currently has ten physician practices in Northeast Columbia. The addition of Lexington Medical Center Northeast will allow the hospital to provide patients in the Northeast Columbia area of the Midlands with more services. In addition to urgent care and imaging including MRIs, CT scans and X-rays, there will also be three operating rooms for a variety of outpatient surgeries, along with occupational therapy, physical therapy, a walking track and classroom space. Ultimately, four floors of the new space will be home to medical specialists, allowing patients a wide variety of health care options close to home.

Importantly, the new facility will allow a patient’s medical history to be integrated into Lexington Medical Center’s electronic heath record, which allows physicians to see a patient’s complete medical history with the touch of a fingertip, and patients to have their own record on their smart phone with the hospital’s MyChart application.

In addition to bringing needed medical services to the community, Lexington Medical Center Northeast is expected to create 125 jobs when it opens and up to 400 jobs as new physician practices are added in the future.
