We are dedicated to providing
the highest quality comprehensive services for women's health.

Our services include:
  • Mammography
  • Breast Ultrasound
  • Stereotactic & Ultrasound Biopsies
  • Bone Densitometry Imaging
Our Women's Imaging facilities provide state-of-the-art diagnosis and care in all areas of mammography and breast ultrasound. Our mammography technologists bring over 50 years of combined experience to their work, and each is certified by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists. In addition, Lexington Medical Center was the first ACR accredited breast center in Columbia.

Since our first ACR accreditation in 1989, Lexington Medical Center has continued its leadership in breast health. Patients find the latest and most advanced procedures for breast screening and diagnosis, including stereotactic equipment which can localize a site for biopsy in the breast within one millimeter. This technology, as well as ultrasound technology, allows core needle biopsies to be performed using only local anesthesia. The procedure is virtually pain-free and results in little, if any, scarring of the breast.

Another health issue of particular concern to women is the prevention, detection and treatment of osteoporosis. Osteoporosis affects more women than heart attack, stroke or breast cancer; four out of every ten 50-year old women will suffer a fracture related to decreased bone mass. With osteoporosis, as with breast cancer, early detection is vital.

To that end, Lexington Medical Center utilizes the latest bone mass imaging equipment called a bone densitometer. The bone densitometer can detect early bone loss, offering an accessible, effective method of helping physicians identify at-risk patients. The imaging procedure is quick and painless, and no disrobing is required.

Offering The Most Advanced Imaging Technology
Digital Detection

Lexington Medical Center also offers the latest in "digital detection" with the ImageChecker system. This highly-advanced technology aids radiologists in finding even the smallest suspected areas that may indicate cancer.

After digitizing the standard x-ray mammogram film, ImageChecker's software analyzes the image and draws the radiologist's attention to suspicious features. If an image is marked, the radiologist goes back to the original mammogram to review this area in more detail.

The ImageChecker technology gives us one more weapon in helping fight breast cancer by using the latest technological advances.

Patient Comfort,
On-Site Assessment

Beyond our advanced technology, we have tailored our services to provide the highest level of patient comfort. It is not by accident that all of our mammography technologists are women. We have created our staff in this way because, as women, we share certain common experiences and we understand how to support one another in those experiences.

We also realize that waiting for test results can be difficult. To help expedite matters, all breast health and osteoporosis assessments are read by on-site radiologists and reports are given to your physician within three to five days.

Women's Imaging at Lexington Medical Center strives to be accessible and affordable. We accept Medicare, and are a Best Chance Network provider for under-insured and non-insured patients. If you have insurance, we will gladly file the necessary forms for you.
