Sleep Diagnostics
791-2683
Lexington Medical Center provides comprehensive care for a full range
of sleep disorders using a multidisciplinary approach. Our highly
trained physicians and technical staff evaluate, treat and provide
follow-up care for a variety of sleep-related disorders such as
obstructive sleep apnea, insomnia, narcolepsy and restless leg
syndrome.
What to Expect?
Once you arrive in the Sleep Disorder Center, you will be shown to a
private bedroom. The rooms are similar to a comfortable, residential
bedroom with a full size bed, TV/DVD and bathroom with a shower. You
will be given an opportunity to freshen up after the study prior to
departure.
The process of collecting data during sleep is called
polysomnography. The rooms are specially equipped to monitor and
record your sleep activity. A technologist will apply sensors,
electrodes and other monitoring devices. These devices will be used
to painlessly record breathing, heart rate, oxygen levels and brain
wave activity during sleep.
A camera is used to observe your sleep throughout the night. This
provides useful diagnostic information and also acts as a safety
feature. An intercom is on at all times to allow you to speak to the
technologist in an adjacent central monitoring room. The technologist
will monitor you during the night by means of computers, video and
printouts of your recorded activity.
