Becky's Place
This Resource Center is designed as a boutique specializing in products and services for women with cancer. The Foundation is pleased to report that gifts made on behalf of Becky Johnson have been used to establish the Rebecca W. Johnson Resource Center and Becky's Place. The center is housed in the new Medical Office Building adjacent to the hospital.
Women's Mobile Imaging Unit
Thanks to a commitment of more than $100,000 from the Foundation, our 41-foot, state-of-the-art mobile imaging unit came off the drawing board and onto the road in 1998. It crosses the county, providing on-site mammographies and bone density scans. As expected, it has become a very important diagnostic tool in the fight against breast cancer and osteoporosis.
Extended Care Memorial Garden
The Foundation provided funding for the design and construction of a memorial garden. Today its brick walkways, benches, fountain and foliage provide a beautiful place of respite and reflection for our Extended Care residents and all others who desire a few moments of tranquility.
Doula Program
The Foundation continues to fund this nationally recognized program that assists mothers in the delivery process. This holistic approach to childbirth, now in its fifth year, has helped many expectant mothers have deliveries that are as smooth and trouble-free as possible. The program was expanded in 1997 to include a Beyond Birth component, offering mothers assistance in making those first few weeks at home with baby far less stressful and much more the special event it is supposed to be.
Project Prescription
When the employees of Lexington Medical Center saw patients leaving the hospital without means of paying for their medications, they opened their hearts and their pocketbooks, and created Project Prescription. This very important funding program helps everyone by lowering the cost of health care for those patients who might otherwise have had to return to the hospital for treatment. Needless to say, we are extraordinarily proud of our people. They not only specialize in care, they specialize in caring.
Partners Program
Every year when summer comes, so, too, do 20 of Lexington County's brightest high school students. These high achievers participate in our Foundation-funded Partners Program, an internship that exposes them to both the rigors and the rewards of a career in the healthcare field. The program lasts five weeks and covers virtually every aspect of hospital life, from emergency room to radiology. It is our pleasure to offer this opportunity to the young people of our community. And although the program is now in its tenth year, we never tire of seeing the eagerness and energy they bring to our halls.
Bears for Children
When children come to the Community Medical Centers for care,
they're often frightened and in pain. The teddy bears they
receive become a friend who can help comfort them and alleviate
their fears.
Diabetic Supplies
This program provides testing supplies to assist low-income and
indigent patients who need help in managing their disease.
Fund-Raising Opportunities
Honor Thy Child
What better way to honor your child than with the gift of philanthropy? Offered to new and continuing Founder Society members, the Honor Thy Child program is designed to allow members to continue giving at current levels while honoring their child or grandchild through a legacy gift. The Foundation insures the precious life of a child, while endowing both the member and the child with lifetime memberships in the Founder Society. Participants not only help ensure quality health care for future generations but they also establish a tradition of family philanthropy.
Legacy Bricks
Since 1996, the Lexington Medical Center Foundation has offered personalized bricks that can be placed in memory of or to honor a loved one in the Memorial Garden at Lexington Medical Center Extended Care. When they purchase a brick, contributors receive a colorful keepsake certificate depicting the inscription on the brick to give to the honored loved one. All commemorative bricks are being used to pave the walkways of the garden. |
