How often have you wished you could readily find an article on a specific health problem, a guide to leading a healthier lifestyle or a synopsis of a childhood disease?

Even if you have a good medical book at home, it usually only gives you a summary of a topic, and not an in-depth report.

That’s why Lexington Medical Center established the Community Health Information Library – a comprehensive resource center for health and wellness information.

Information can be reviewed, copied or printed on-site, or you can request information by phone.

What is the Community Health Information Library?

In today’s world, good health is not the sole responsibility of physicians– it’s our responsibility. And as insurance providers continue to control costs by reducing hospital stays and doctor visits, greater importance is placed on keeping people healthy and giving them the power to extend their lives through healthy living habits.

The Community Health Information Library empowers people by helping them assert their rights as active participants in healthcare and health education. Recognizing that some consumers may want to investigate specific treatment options in-depth, while others just want basic information on a disease or illness, our Library includes thousands of publications, from general consumer-oriented magazines to technical abstracts in layman’s terms.*

What type of information is available?

With information on thousands of topics, the Community Health Information Library can help you answer many health questions related to:

• General health and wellness

• Diagnosis and treatment

• Injury and illness prevention

• Medications and therapies

Information is available in numerous forms, including reference books, videotapes, and our sophisticated consumer health database, Health Source Plus.

Health Source Plus:

Health Source Plus is the hallmark of the Community Health Information Library. This consumer health database helps the lay patient find answers to personal health questions. Health Source Plus provides coverage of medical sciences, psychology, nutrition, childcare, sports medicine, health care law and general health.

Information is easy to access, updated daily and available in many forms:

Nearly 1000 health-related pamphlets

• Over 260 full-text journals

• Nearly 25 health research books

Other Resources:

LMC Sponsored Groups: Each month the Lexington Medical Center Calendar of Events list the dates and times that local support groups meet.

Midland's Area Support Group Network: Founded in 1986, our hospital's network attempts to match local callers with various support groups in central South Carolina. As the only ASC listed in South Carolina, we are willing to respond to non-local callers who don't have internet access so that the caller can take the sheet we mail to them to their local public library. The librarian can help locate support group information for the caller on the library's internet connection. For more information please call (803) 791-2800.
